For everyone’s benefit, here’s how to proceed through this process and what to expect along the way to assist them get started with confidence.

Understand the Requirements

In Minnesota, persons can begin working toward their real estate license as early as the age of eighteen. The licensing procedure is designed to educate people for success in their chosen profession, and as a result, it is rather time-consuming. A total of 90 hours of teaching is required for the first three preparatory courses, which must be completed in their entirety. A detailed examination of what it takes to become a real estate agent and to offer the quality of service that consumers require is conducted in these courses.

Following that is the salesperson’s test, with a passing grade necessary in order to apply for a state license.

After finishing real estate school in Minnesota and passing the exam, the state requires that the applicant’s mentor vouch for them and submit the application to the department of commerce.

Look for a Scholarship Program

With classes costing several hundred dollars each, it makes sense to look for scholarship possibilities to help alleviate the financial burden of attending college. All of the needed texts are covered through scholarship programs, as are the costs of the courses itself. Because of our commitment to the success of our prospects, theKris Lindahl Real Estate program is a popular choice among our clients. We give the financing necessary to pay the costs of all three essential pre-licensing courses in order to assist people who wish to enter the sector.

Participants in this program have the option of choosing from a variety of course providers, allowing them to select one that works with their schedule.

Attend Real Estate School in Minnesota

Students must enroll in their first course after deciding on their favorite real estate school in Minnesota and applying for a scholarship, if they wish to graduate. The mandatory pre-licensing classes are simply referred to as Course I, Course II, and Course III, depending on the level of instruction. Students begin learning all of the essentials necessary for this professional path in Course I, which is the first of three courses. When students have completed the first course, they can sit for their state examination under the supervision of a proctor.

Each course is 30 hours in total, allowing students to complete the requisite 90 hours of teaching time in a single semester. While working toward meeting the pre-licensing requirements, students are not permitted to complete more than eight hours of training in a single day.

Prospective real estate agents have all they need to apply for a license after completing the requisite courses and passing the exam — with the exception of the support of a registered broker. The state mandates that all applications be submitted through a licensed main real estate broker who can attest for the applicant’s character and competence. This implies that aspiring agents must begin networking in earnest immediately in order to locate a mentor. Finding a mentor for students who are participating in a local scholarship program may be a simple task.

Finding mentors on social media, at local seminars and other events, as well as through professional networking organizations, is also an option.

  • The National Association of REALTORS®, the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS®, the Real Estate Business Institute, the CCIM Institute, and the Society of Industrial and Office REALTORS® are among the organizations represented.

In addition, they will be required to pay the $130 license application cost. Only individuals who hold a primary real estate broker license are eligible to submit a licensing application for new applicants to the state. This is when the role of the mentor comes into play.

Wait for Approval by the Commerce Department

Finally, in order to become a licensed real estate agent, you must submit an application to the Department of Commerce and wait for approval. Although the approval procedure for renewals typically takes only seven days, the processing time for new applications can be significantly longer. Processing times are heavily impacted by the volume of work being done in the department, therefore it is advisable to anticipate approval taking several weeks. Once the application has been approved, the candidate will be able to practice as a real estate salesman in the state of Minnesota officially.

When an applicant’s application is refused, he or she must correct the deficiencies that were identified and have their mentor complete the application procedure once more.
