How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Minnesota

How do I submit my Minnesota Salesperson application?
As a real estate salesperson, you must first be affiliated with an actively licensed real estate broker in order to be eligible for licensing. Studying for more than 8 hours per day does not qualify students for course credit; as a result, the proctored final exam for each 30-hour course will not be available until the fourth day after the course begins. What does it take to get a real estate license in Minnesota?
If you want to operate as a real estate agent in Minnesota, you must finish 90 hours of Pre-Licensing courses first. There are three 30-hour courses that make up this program (I, II, III). Preparation for the state and general licensing examinations must begin with Course I. Once you have finished Course I, you can register for the state and general licensing exams. Prior to a brokerage submitting your license application to the state, you must successfully complete Courses II and III online.
After passing your test, you have up to one year to submit your application for a license in most states. Real estate agents in Minnesota are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education credits within two years of their license renewal in order to keep their license current.
Scheduling the required State and General exams:
Pearson VUE provides practice exams for brokers and salespeople. Questions on broad real estate themes are included in the examinations. The exams are constructed based on ideas found in the general section of the actual exam and cover topics such as product knowledge, terminology, and conceptual understandings. The practice exams are designed to correspond to the current general test structure. There are currently no state-specific practice exams available.

3. Take the optional MN License Exam Prep course
Although Minnesota Salesperson Pre-Licensure Course 1 has all of the information you’ll need to pass the state license examinations, we highly recommend taking our optional Exam Preparation Course. Preparing for the licensing tests is extremely challenging, and the Exam Prep course will reinforce and assist you in remembering the fundamental elements that you may encounter on both the uniform and state-specific pre-license examinations. Also included are exam-taking strategies and plenty of practice with example questions to assist you in preparing for the difficult licensure tests.

4. Pass the licensing exam
There are two sorts of pre-license exams: written and oral.
- Final tests for each pre-license course: Each pre-license course includes a final exam that must be taken with a proctor once you have completed each course. (As previously mentioned in Step 2.)
- Exam for real estate license: The test will consist of both a national (commonly called as uniform) and a state specificexam All of these examinations are administered at a state-approved testing facility, and you may only sit for them AFTER completing the Course 1 final exam and receiving your completion certificate.
Remember that you must bring your Course 1 completion certificate with you to the testing facility in order to sit for the Minnesota state licensure exam. You will be required to take a two-part licensure exam: one portion covering fundamental real estate concepts and another covering Minnesota-specific rules and procedures. You have the option of taking both portions in the same session or at different times. Should one of them go unpassed, you will have to wait until the next business day to schedule a retake.
The cost of re-testing is the same as the first.

5. Complete Course 2 and pass the course final exam with a proctor
Following your successful completion of your licensing exam with Pearson Vue, you will proceed to Course 2. The first course, Course 1, is designed to prepare you for the licensing examinations; thus, we recommend that you wait to begin Courses 2 and 3 until you have passed the licensure exams with Pearson Vue. A proctor will supervise your performance on the course final exam, same as they did in Course 1. If you need additional information about the proctored exam, see Step 2.
6. Complete Course 3 and pass the course final exam with a proctor
You will finish Course 3 online, just like you did in Courses 1 and 2, and you will take your final exam with the assistance of a proctor. You will have completed your education requirements at this time, but you will still need to complete one more step in order to get licensed.
7. Apply for your real estate salesperson license
Once you have received completion certificates for all three 30-hour pre-license courses and passed the real estate licensing examinations, you will be able to apply for your Minnesota Real Estate Salesperson license through the real estate business with which you have chosen to work.
